Renewables and Energy Efficiency
There has never been a better time to start using renewable energy. GEV has arranged the purchase of renewable energy certificates equivalent to 100% of electricity usage of several large commercial buildings in Chicago. These purchases have offset nearly all of the carbon emissions produced by these buildings at a price within the building’s utility budget.
The renewable energy certificate purchases have allowed these buildings to become 100% green with respect to their power purchases and thereby qualify for LEED certificates. GEV also arranged the purchase of renewable energy certificates equivalent to 20% of the electricity purchases for the Chicago Public Schools. This is the largest green energy purchase by a U.S. school district, saving over 195,000 tons of carbon emissions over the 3 year life of the contract.
GEV also qualifies its customers for substantial payments by signing them up for a peak demand curtailment program implemented by Comverge. Additionally, GEV qualifies its clients for subsidies for implementation of energy efficiency measures.
